3D Game – Final Year Coursework

This was the game I produced for the 'Programming for Entertainment Systems' module which involved a crash course in DirectX and programming in a non-managed environment. For this coursework we were given the option to work with DirectX or XNA framework. I saw that I could do a lot more in the given time with XNA so I went down that route which also involved a self taught crash course in C# and XNA.

The brief we were given was to produce 'something that does something with something coming out of something'. In other words something that flies, drives, swims, etc. with some kind of projectile, particles, bomb, etc. that comes out of it.

I produced an almost fully working mini game. I didn't quite have time to program in ground collisions but everything else worked. It has a ship you pilot, an enemy to shoot down, bullets you fire, a bounding box for the environment and bounding boxes around you, the enemy and the bullets for collision detection. I also added in lerp for the ship giving a nice steering effect and overcame gimbal lock when flying through the Y axis.

I also added control using an XBOX360 wired controller. Sound was all handled by XACT. All 3D models were grabbed from the internet and redesigned in Google Sketchup and 3DS Max.

My tutor was very impressed with this one.

Here is the main code.

I've resized the game window for better video quality on YouTube so the text isn't quite centred.
